Power Outage – 8th April 2025

Yesterday afternoon at around 1638hrs Gibraltar suffered a total blackout.

We can confirm that the loss of power suffered, resulted from damage caused by a contractor to High Voltage cables in the area of the North Mole Power Station.

Our initial enquiries confirmed that no injuries had been sustained by the workers on site at the time of the incident.

The contractor, Calpe Electrical, has fully accepted liability for the power cut in question.

The works the contractor was undertaking were commissioned by us for the installation of the Battery Energy Storage System.

The contractor had been provided with schematic diagrams showing where all the relevant cables it should avoid are laid.

Power supply to the northern end of Gibraltar was restored by 1753hrs, with this followed by the southern end and town by 1854hrs.

Power was restored to all domestic Customers affected by 2214hrs, with power being restored to the last of our commercial Customers at 2344hrs.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for your continued support.
